Portuguese emigration to Belgium decreases 10% in 2020
Inês Vidigal
According to OECD data, 2,907 Portuguese entered Belgium in 2020. That international organisation accounted for a total of 101,553 entries of foreigners into Belgian territory, with the Portuguese accounting for 2.9% of that total. +

The growth trend that had been seen since 2018 was interrupted in 2020, with the number of Portuguese arrivals in Belgium decreasing again (-9.6%), in a year in which the number of total arrivals of foreigners also decreased (-21.6%). This decrease is likely to be largely explained by the effects of the pandemic on the restriction of mobility that occurred during 2020. In 2013 the number of Portuguese emigrants entering Belgian territory had reached the highest figure of this century (4,332 arrivals), very different from the 1,324 arrivals recorded in 2000 (minimum value of the series under analysis).
