Almost ten thousand Portuguese emigrated to Switzerland in 2022

According to data from the Office Fédéral de la Statistique, 9,948 Portuguese entered Switzerland in 2022. The official statistics department counted a total of 169,055 foreigners entering Swiss territory in that year, with the Portuguese accounting for 5.9% of that total. +

After a slight increase in 2021 (1.8%), emigration to Switzerland grew exponentially in 2022 (29.6%), reaching almost ten thousand entries. The number of Portuguese entering Switzerland has not been this high since 2016. Despite the growth recorded in 2022, the recessionary trend of recent years has resulted in a relative loss of importance for Portuguese immigration: while in 2013 the Portuguese accounted for 12% of migrants entering Switzerland, in 2022 they represented only 5.9%.
