Portuguese arrivals in the US stabilise in 2022

In 2022, 746 Portuguese entered the United States of America (USA), according to data from the US Department of Homeland Security. In 2022, the US Department of Homeland Security counted 1,018,349 foreign entries in the US, with the Portuguese accounting for 0.1% of that value. +

After 2020 saw a series low in the number of Portuguese entering the US and 2021 saw a slight recovery (11%), 2022 saw a small decline (-0.5%). This figure seems to signal a trend towards stabilisation in the number of Portuguese entering American territory. However, the number of Portuguese entering the US is still far from the figure recorded in 2001: 1,609, the highest in the period under review. In relative terms, Portuguese emigration to the US still represents a very small fraction of immigration in this country (0.1%).
