Portuguese emigration to Canada tends to stabilise in 2022
Inês Vidigal
There were 875 Portuguese who entered Canada in 2022, according to data from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The official statistics department accounted for a total of 437,590 entries of foreigners in Canadian territory in that year, with the Portuguese accounting for 0.2% of this total. +

After a decrease in the number of Portuguese entering Canada in 2020 and having reached the highest number of entries since 2000 in 2021, there was a small decline in 2022 (-1.7%). This figure seems to signal a trend towards stabilisation of Portuguese entries into Canadian territory. During the period under review, the lowest value was recorded in 2003 (329 entries), while the highest was in 2021 (890 entries). Portuguese emigration to Canada continues to represent a very small fraction of both immigration in this country (0.2%) and total Portuguese emigration (less than 1%).
