In 2020, Portuguese arrivals in the USA reached the lowest value of the entire series under analysis, having registered a sharp decrease which, even so, was lower than that registered in total foreign arrivals in the country (-27.8% and -31.4%, respectively). This decrease comes after in 2019 Portuguese emigration to the US increased and interrupted the decline that had been registered since 2017. With this new decrease, the number of Portuguese citizens entering the USA is even further away from the figure recorded in 2001: 1,609, the highest in the period under analysis. In relative terms, Portuguese emigration to the US still represents a very small fraction of immigration in this country (0.1%).
