Portuguese inflows into Brazil increased 12% in 2019
Inês Vidigal
In 2019, 705 Portuguese entered Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security. This ministry accounted for a total of 31,297 foreigners entering Brazil, with the Portuguese accounting for 2.3% of this total. +

In 2018 and 2019, Portuguese emigration to Brazil grew by 5% and 11.7% respectively. This growth contrasts with the downward trend in Portuguese entries into Brazilian territory since 2014. Despite this change, the number of Portuguese entering Brazil is still far from that observed in 2013: 2.904, the highest value for the period under review. The recessive trend in recent years has translated into a relative loss of importance of Portuguese immigration: while in 2013 the Portuguese accounted for 4.7% of the inflows to Brazil, in 2019 they represented only 2.3%.
