Portuguese inflow into Belgium increases for the first time since 2013
Inês Vidigal
According to OECD data, 2816 Portuguese entered Belgium in 2018. That international organisation accounted for a total of 116,768 entries of foreigners into Belgian territory, with the Portuguese accounting for 2.4% of that total. +

Contrary to the trend of the last four years, in 2018 the number of Portuguese entries in Belgium grew slightly (+4.6% than in the previous year). In 2013 the number of Portuguese emigrants entering Belgian territory had reached the highest figure of this century (4,332 arrivals), very different from the 1,324 arrivals recorded in 2000 (minimum value of the series under analysis). The recessive trend in recent years has translated into a relative loss of importance of Portuguese immigration: while in 2013 the Portuguese accounted for 4% of the influx of migrants into Belgium, in 2018 they accounted for only 2.4%.
