Emigration to the Netherlands increases for the fourth consecutive year
Inês Vidigal
According to data from the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, 2,841 Portuguese entered the Netherlands in 2019. This Dutch agency accounted for a total of 235,954 foreigners entering the country, with the Portuguese accounting for 1.2% of this total. +

For the fourth consecutive year, the number of Portuguese arrivals in the Netherlands increased (+18.4% in 2019). With this growth, a new maximum of Portuguese entries into Dutch territory was reached in 2019 during this century. Throughout the time series under analysis (2000-2019), Portuguese emigration to the Netherlands had a minimum value in 2005, with 830 entries, and a very strong growth between that year and 2008. A slight decrease between 2013 and 2015 was replaced by continuous growth in the following years. The Netherlands is one of the few major destinations where Portuguese entry has increased steadily in recent years.
