Portuguese emigration to the USA decreases again in 2018

Less than a thousand Portuguese entered the United States in 2018, according to data from the US Department of Homeland Security. In 2018, the US Department of Homeland Security counted more than one million foreign entries in the US (1,096,611), with the Portuguese accounting for 0.1% of that figure.+

In 2018, Portuguese emigration to the US registered a further decrease (-5% in 2018, -7% in 2017). This new decrease reinforces the reversal of the upward trend that had occurred in 2016 (17% increase and more than a thousand entries). The variation in the number of Portuguese inflows into the USA during this century has, in general, followed the variations in total immigration in that country, which, in 2018, also had a decrease (-2.7%).
