Emigration to Canada reaches record in 2018
Inês Vidigal
There were 865 Portuguese who entered Canada in 2018, according to data from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The official statistics department accounted for a total of 321,060 entries of foreigners in Canadian territory in that year, with the Portuguese accounting for 0.3% of this total.+

With the growth recorded in 2018, a new maximum of Portuguese inflows into Canadian territory was reached during this century. Since 2000, the number of Portuguese arriving in Canada has fluctuated frequently, although an upward trend has prevailed. During the period under review, the lowest number of entries was in 2003, when only 329 Portuguese emigrated to Canada. In 2017, there was a further decline in Portuguese emigration to Canada. However, we can now say that this was a new oscillation and not a reversal of the upward trend.
