Sharp Decrease in emigration to Belgium in 2014
Inês Vidigal
According to data from the OECD, in 2014 3,594 Portuguese people entered Belgium. That international organization counted a total of 123,569 entries of foreigners in Belgian territory, representing the Portuguese 3% of this total. +

Between 2000 and 2013, the number of Portuguese entries in Belgium increased steadily, with a slight fall in 2009 and 2010, similar to that of emigration to other countries in the context of the global financial crisis. The years of 2008 and 2012 were the fastest growing, with rates above 30%. In 2013 occurred the peak of the series, with more than 4,300 entries. In 2014 there was a clear reversal of the trend in recent years, with a sharp decline: -17% compared to 2013.
