Emigration to Switzerland decreased in 2015
Rui Pena Pires
According to data from the Office Fédéral de la Statistique, in 2015 12,325 Portuguese arrived in Switzerland, minus 2,896 from the previous year. The official statistics department accounted for a total of 162,563 foreign entrants into Swiss territory that year, representing the Portuguese 7.6% of that total. +

This was the second consecutive year that emigration to Switzerland significantly declined: -24% in 2014 and -19% in 2015. In a year when, on the contrary, the total number of migrants entering Switzerland increased, that recessive trend translated on a relative loss of importance of the Portuguese immigration: in 2013, the Portuguese accounted for 12% of migrants' arrivals in Switzerland, which fell to 9.4% in 2014 and 7.6% in 2015.
