Since 2000, the number of Portuguese entries in the US has been variable. In 2003, there was a decrease: only 808 nationals entered the United States. From 2004 to 2006, there was a progressive increase, followed by a drop in 2007. Since 2008, the figures have been lower than 1,000 entries, with slight variations from year to year.

Currently, the US is the twelfth country where most Portuguese emigrate.
