Portuguese arrivals in Sweden decreases in 2024
Inês Vidigal
In 2024, 565 Portuguese entered Sweden, according to Statistics Sweden. That Swedish agency accounted for a total of 116,197 foreign entries in Sweden, with the Portuguese accounting for 0.5% of that total. +

After a further increase of 25.8% in 2023 - the highest number of entries since 2000 - there was a decrease of 17.9% in 2024, interrupting the growth in emigration to Sweden that had been taking place over the last three years. Over the time series under analysis (2000-2024), Portuguese emigration to Swedish territory had a maximum value in 2023 (688 entries) very different from the 69 entries recorded in 2000 (minimum value of the series under analysis). However, Portuguese emigration to Sweden still represents a very small fraction of both immigration in Sweden (0.5%) and total Portuguese emigration (less than 1%).
