More than 12,000 Portuguese emigrated to Switzerland in 2023

According to data from the Office Fédéral de la Statistique, 12,652 Portuguese entered Switzerland in 2023. The official statistics department counted a total of 241,040 foreigners entering Swiss territory in that year, with the Portuguese accounting for 5.2% of that total. +

After the exponential increase recorded in 2022 (29.6 per cent), emigration to Switzerland grew significantly again in 2023 (27.2 per cent), surpassing 12,000 entries. The number of Portuguese entering Switzerland has not been this high since 2015. Despite the growth recorded in 2023, the recessionary trend of recent years has resulted in a relative loss of importance for Portuguese immigration: while in 2013 the Portuguese accounted for 12% of migrants entering Switzerland, in 2023 they represented only 5.2%.
