Portuguese emigration to Brazil tends to stabilise in 2023
Inês Vidigal
In 2023, 547 Portuguese entered Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security. This ministry accounted for a total of 29,627 foreigners entering Brazil, with the Portuguese accounting for 1.8% of this total. +

After 2020 saw a decrease in the number of Portuguese entering Brazil and 2021 and 2022 saw increases, 2023 saw a small decline (-2.7%). This value seems to herald a trend towards stabilisation in the number of Portuguese entering Brazilian territory. The number of Portuguese citizens entering Brazil is still far from the figure recorded in 2013: 2,904, the highest in the period under review. The recessive trend in recent years has translated into a relative loss of importance of Portuguese immigration: while in 2013 the Portuguese accounted for 4.7% of the inflows to Brazil, in 2023 they represented only 1.8%.
