Did you know that by 2020 there were 280.6 million international migrants?
The International Organization for Migration developed a portal, the Migration Data Portal, where statistical information regarding international migration is compiled. In this space, it is possible to find statistical information by country, by subregion, by region and by IOM region, as well as to compare and explore international, national, country and indicator data.

The Portal is intended to serve as a single access point for comprehensive and timely migration statistics and reliable information on migration data worldwide, and is designed to help policy makers, national statistics officers, journalists and the general public interested in the field of migration navigate the increasingly complex landscape of international migration data, currently dispersed across different organizations and agencies.

The Portal is divided into six main sections.

  • Data: interactive world map visualizes international migration data, publicly available and internationally comparable.
  • Themes: thematic overviews explain how various aspects of migration are measured, what the data sources are, their strengths and weaknesses, and provide context and analysis of key migration data.
  • Tools: regularly added migration data tools to help you find the right tools, guidelines and manuals on how to collect, interpret and disseminate migration data.
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Compact on Migration (GCM): reviews the migration-related goals in the SDGs, how they are defined and measured, and provides information on the new GCM and the migration data needed to support its implementation.
  • Overviews: key statistics on migration by country and region and profiles of country migration governance structures according to the Migration Governance Indicators (MGI).
  • Blog: blog and video series Talking Migration Data provide a place for the migration data community to share their views on new developments and policies, new data or methods.
