About the speaker
Ian Goldin is a Professor of Globalization and Development at Oxford University and a lecturer at the University's Balliol College. Over the ten-year period from 2006 to 2016, he was the founding director of the Oxford Martin School - a research organization with pioneering research programs that cut across disciplines to find solutions to the world's most pressing challenges - and currently leads the Oxford Martin research programs on Technological and Economic Change, the Future of Work, and the Future of Development. He has published over 55 articles, numerous reports, and over 23 books, the most recent being Rescue: From Global Crisis to a Better World, published in 2021, and Terra Incognita: 100 Maps for Surviving the Next 100 Years, in 2020. In addition to his research work, he has also written and presented three BBC documentary series: After the Crash (2018), Will AI Kill Development? (2019), and the most recent, The Pandemic that Changed the World (2020).
About the moderator
Paulo Pedroso is an invited associate professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Policy at iscte, and a researcher at the Center for Research and Studies in Sociology of the same institution. He graduated in sociology at the institution where he currently teaches, and did a post-graduation in rural and urban sociology. In addition to his career as a teacher and researcher, Paulo Pedroso has held the positions of Secretary of State for Employment and Training in the XIII Constitutional Government, and Secretary of State for Labor and Training and Minister of Labor and Solidarity in the XIV Constitutional Government. He was, between 2018 and 2020, Alternate Executive Director of the World Bank.
