Abstract
In today's global world, remittances play a leading role in the world economy as they are one of the major financial flows connecting countries and economies. Remittances are
volatile in nature, since they are defined by a set of numerous incomes that are transferred from people who work outside their usual place of residence. Remittances can be used in a
variety of ways by households, from personal consumption to investment, from bank savings to ensuring better health care and education, among others. The analysis and its implications for the economy have been extensively studied over time due to the fact that the world economy is constantly changing and therefore its effects differ from country to country. There is a growing need to examine the interconnection between variables involving remittances such as their inflows and outflows, private consumption, investment, diplomatic relations, and how they influence economic growth and development. In this research, a collection of data from the literature relevant to the study of the implications of remittances of emigrants on the Portuguese economy was carried out. Finally, it was demonstrated that there is a way to go about their use and also about the valuation of their potential. Portugal is considered a country of emigration par excellence and it makes sense to analyze the implications of remittances from its emigrants.
