Abstract

This study deals with the entrepreneurship and business strategy of Portuguese emigrants around the world and aims to find out about the choices made by Portuguese emigrants in terms of host and business countries and the reasons that lead them to leave our country. However, the main objective is to understand the extent to which Portuguese emigrants are entrepreneurial in their business activities and search for new markets. In this study, we opted for a quantitative research methodology by carrying out a survey using a convenience sample of 56 Portuguese emigrant entrepreneurs from around the world. In this survey, the topics of interest inherent to the study in question were addressed. The results obtained show some variety in the countries of destination, and the vast majority of the companies under study are characterized as being micro or small businesses. However, these entrepreneurs identify with the characteristics inherent to entrepreneurs, such as a creative spirit, passion for their work or leadership skills, and state that they have already defined expansion policies for their businesses.
