Abstract

The current relevance of Portuguese emigration, evident in the statistics, press and academia, as well as family and multigenerational migratory experience, were the main reasons that led to this work. It has as main objective to study the recent dynamics of Portuguese emigration, starring quotas with higher qualifications. Will be observed in more detail, the following dimensions: V sociographic characterization of migratory flows, the departure of Portugal, the process of integration in the host country and return expectations. The empirical work focuses on capturing the perceptions of skilled emigrant population, whose first output occurred between 2006 and 2015 - corresponding roughly to the years of the financial crisis and higher migration intensity - through the holding of eight semi-structured interviews and two hundred and one questionnaire surveys in the online platform. The data of our convenience sample therefore non-probabilistic, show that mostly the reporting population is married, with no children, with an average age around thirty-two, mostly resident in the Lisbon district prior to migration occurred for reasons of professional order and guaranteed employment in the destination country. This population works for others, positively evaluates his life in the receiving contexts, without return deadline, and travelling back to Portugal, on average, three to four times a year.
