Abstract

The Portuguese migration towards Morocco is barely known when compared to Portuguese migration movements towards other contries. This research seeks to depict the processes of settle of Portuguese people in a geographically close territory with which we have strong historical and cultural ties. The goal here is to make an approach to this phenomenon that seems to have been particularly strong during the first decades of the 20th century when it mobilized fishermen families of the Algarve, but still occurs nowadays, although at a significantly minor scale. Who are the Portuguese who, over time, have chosen to migrate to Morocco? What are their grounds? What kind of relationships and connections do they establish with the country and its people? This investigation tries to understand the causes
and features that throughout time have defined the Moroccan route. It also aims to identify the motivations of these Portuguese migrants attempting to reveal this interesting but almost unnoticed topic that is part of the vast theme that regards the Portuguese migration.
