Abstract
Portugal has always been a country of emigrants, however, in recent years this phenomenon has gained considerable dimensions, now boasting different features from previous cycles. This new wave emerges as a consequence of the economic crisis that hit the country and was reflected in the unemployment, that affects, mainly, young people seeking the first job, leading to a mass exit of qualified young people, with the United Kingdom and the north of Europe at the top of the preferences. It is, therefore, justified to carry out a study to understand how the business environment of the region is affected, as a consequence of this migratory phenomenon, with regards to the management decisions that need to be made and how they are expected to affect the region. The present study is of the quantitative, exploratory and descriptive type, with a cross-sectional nature and its objectives are an analysis of qualified emigration and the study of the recruitment needs of the region. A questionnaire was carried out by the UAlg students. It can be observed that the majority of young people consider emigrating, motivated by the spirit of adventure, the prospect of better security conditions and the desire to have more balance between personal and professional life. This research is of particular relevance, to the extent that it may represent a contribution towards the implementation of strategies for the re-collocation of human resources by companies or a re-analysis of the training offer with regards to the needs of the market.
