Portuguese emigration to the UK is the lowest since 2011
Inês Vidigal
There were 18,871 Portuguese who entered the United Kingdom in 2018, according to data from the Department for Work and Pensions. That British agency accounted for a total of 632,670 foreigners in the United Kingdom, with the Portuguese representing 3% of that total. +

Portuguese emigration to the United Kingdom has decreased by 17% in 2018 compared to 2017. After a maximum of 32,301 entries in 2015, Portuguese emigration to the United Kingdom is already at levels below the ones registere in 2012. This decline began in 2016 and was accompanied by the general movement of immigrants' arrivals in the United Kingdom, which fell by 0.4% in 2016, 17.2% in 2017 and 7.3% in 2018. The acceleration of the reduction of Portuguese emigration to the UK will be mainly due to the fears induced by Brexit.
