Portuguese emigration to the USA decreases in 2017
Inês Vidigal
There were just under 1,000 Portuguese who, in 2017, entered the United States of America, according to data from the US Department of Homeland Security. In 2017, this US institution counted more than one million foreigners in the United States (1,127,167), with the Portuguese representing 0.1% of that value. +

In 2017, Portuguese emigration to the United States declined by 7%, returning to values below 1,000 per year, a reversal compared to what had occurred in 2016 (an increase of 17% and incomes above 1,000). The variation in the number of Portuguese immigrants in the United States throughout this century has, in general, accompanied the variations of total immigration in that country, which, in 2017, also declined (-4.8%).
