Fewer Portuguese entries in Switzerland for the fourth consecutive year
Inês Vidigal
According to data from the Office Fédéral de la Statistique, in 2017 9,257 Portuguese entered Switzerland. The official statistical department accounted for a total of 147,142 foreign entries into Swiss territory in that year, representing the Portuguese 6.3% of this total. +

This was the fourth consecutive year that emigration to Switzerland has declined significantly after having reached its peak in this century in 2013. For 15 years that the number of Portuguese who entered Switzerland was not so low. The recessive trend reflected a relative loss of importance of Portuguese immigration: if in 2013 the Portuguese accounted for 12% of migrants' arrivals into Switzerland, in 2017 they accounted for only 6.3%.
