Emigration to Spain grew 18% in 2017

There were 9,038 Portuguese who entered Spain in 2017, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (Population by Municipalities). This Spanish organization accounted for a total of 637,375 foreign admissions in Spain, with the Portuguese representing 1.4% of that total. +

For the fourth consecutive year the number of Portuguese entries in Spain increased, which in 2017 recorded the highest value of the last eight years.However, this figure corresponds to only one-third of the maximum observed in the series under analysis, registered in 2007, with 27,178 Portuguese entries in Spanish territory.Spain is one of the few Portuguese emigration countries, where Portuguese enrollment has increased steadily since 2013, with the highest growth in this period in 2017: + 18.2%.
