Portuguese emigration to Iceland increases for the seventh consecutive year
There were 270 Portuguese who entered Iceland in 2017, according to Statistics Iceland. That Icelandic agency counted a total of 11,758 entries of foreigners in the country, with the Portuguese representing 2.3% of immigration that year. +

For the seventh consecutive year the number of Portuguese entries in Iceland increased, which in 2017, recorded the highest value of the last nine years. However, this value corresponds to only half of the maximum observed in the series under analysis, registered in 2004, with 520 entries. Portuguese emigration to Iceland began abruptly that year, accounting for more than a fifth of foreigners' inflow into the country. Since then, variations in the volume of immigration in that country have accompanied the changes in the Icelandic economy: entries with significant values in the years of the economic-financial boom of the beginning of the century, retraction with the great financial crisis of 2008, and recovery in line with the rapid economic recovery that started in 2011.
