Abstract
The following study aimed to explore the recent phenomenon of emigration of Portuguese people to Brazil. It was analyzed the similar phenomenon dated from the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century in order to do a comparison with the actual data delivered by the various statistical centers and relevant and specialized news sources. It was also made a theoretical analysis of the effects of migration and a framework in the reality of the Portuguese in Brazil. Based on this understanding, it was concluded that the economic situation of each of these countries is the engine for the social mobility and two studies were explored to get the profiles of these countries regarding the Competitiveness and Human Development. It was performed an empirical analysis of a sample of seven emigrants in order to complement the pre-established ideas. We found that this is a growing phenomenon derived from the current crisis lived in Portugal and followed by the potential for economic development of Brazil. The current wave of emigration differs from the past one and is characterized by absorption of the highly qualified Portuguese executives by the Brazilian business networks in opposition to the pursuit of fortune through trade activities verified about a century ago. Nevertheless the process of integration in the Brazilian community by these two waves of Portuguese emigrants is made in a similar way, with big focus on the professional goals and remaining an alienation and detachment with the integration into the Brazilian people.
