Abstract

With high unemployment and lack of opportunities in Portugal, a significant number of Portuguese choose to emigrate. They are Portuguese who decide to head to other places, going with dreams, with a determination to have a new life, but also with fear and with a suitcase full of longing. Go with an entrepreneurial attitude, with a desire to win, which they transpose linguistic, legal and cultural barriers implementing successful business. These are Portuguese emigrant entrepreneurs resident in London, we address in this study. Their characteristics, the reasons for emigration, as were entrepreneurs, the obstacles they encountered and how their companies are characterized. The connection to the host country and the home country are also studied. The methodologies used for this work were the quantitative and qualitative collection. The questionnaire was answered by 35 entrepreneurs and five interviews were held. We found that, despite being far away and well integrated in London, these Portuguese still feel very connected to Portugal.
