Abstract
Migration flows between states are a particularly dynamic reality influenced by multiple factors of varying importance. One of the major factors influencing migration between states is undoubtedly proximity, for obvious reasons; as are the socioeconomic inequalities between them, to the extent that the two variables converge, cultural and territorial proximity, as well as socioeconomic inequality, in the same case; it is logical and common for large numbers of migratory movements to occur from one state to another. Paradigmatic examples of this situation, particularly in terms of migratory movements due to economic inequality, include Mexicans in the United States, Albanians in Greece and Moroccans in Spain (Moré, 2007). The same is true of the Portuguese in the Kingdom of Spain, which is particularly significant and has special characteristics in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. Galicia is the community with the highest proportion of Portuguese immigrants, so this project will focus on the reality of Portuguese immigrants in the Autonomous Community of Galicia, focusing more specifically on a specific area of the territory, the districts of Courel-Quiroga and Terra de Lemos. These regions are adjacent and are located in a rural, inland area approximately 100 km from the Galician border with Portugal.
