Entre guerres et paix: nouveaux regards et enjeux des migrations portugaises
On 19 and 20 November 2026, Université Paris 8 will host the international conference Between Wars and Peace: New Perspectives and Challenges of Portuguese Migration (1914–1945), dedicated to new perspectives on Portuguese migration during the period between the two World Wars.

The programme includes keynote lectures and several thematic sessions focusing, among other topics, on the First World War, the Spanish Civil War, forms of political mobilisation in exile, migration categories and policies, and representations of Portuguese communities during the interwar period. It also includes a roundtable on archives and Portuguese migration.

The conference will also feature the exhibition Les étrangers dans la Résistance, le cas des Portugais and a screening of Carlos Pereira’s documentary Les Portugais dans la Résistance, followed by a discussion.

The event is organised by the Laboratoire d’Études Romanes (LER) at Université Paris 8 and the Institute of Contemporary History – In2Past (IHC-In2Past/NOVA FCSH).
