The session will explore different migration experiences, bringing into dialogue trajectories of exile and labour migration, return and circulation between the two countries. The event will bring together first-person testimonies, researchers and institutional representatives from Portugal and Switzerland, encouraging reflection on the diversity and transformation of the Portuguese presence in Switzerland.
The event also marks the arrival in Lisbon of the final stage of the «Notre História» route, an initiative recognising the Portuguese presence in Geneva, developed by the Bureau de l’intégration et de la citoyenneté (BIC) of the Département de la cohésion sociale of the Republic and Canton of Geneva.
Launched in Geneva in March 2026, «Notre História» traces the history and contributions of Portuguese communities through a 12-stage memorial route, complemented by a website, a newspaper, a podcast series and various audio contents. The project highlights the diversity of the Portuguese presence, including experiences of exile and labour migration, associative and family life, and more recent forms of mobility between Portugal and Switzerland.
The session is organised by Liliana Azevedo (CIES-Iscte) and Valerio Simoni (ICS-ULisboa).
