Portuguese emigration to Italy reaches record high in 2025
Inês Vidigal
In 2025, 808 Portuguese nationals entered Italy, according to data from the Istituto Nazionale di Statistica. This national statistical authority recorded a total of 439,916 foreign entries into Italy, with Portuguese nationals accounting for only 0.2% of this total. +

Following the slight decrease recorded in 2024, Portuguese emigration to Italy increased again in 2025 (+17.8%), reaching the highest value in the series under analysis. This occurred in a year in which total immigrant entries into Italy declined slightly (-2.6%), suggesting a specific dynamic in the Portuguese flow in relation to the overall trend of immigration to the country. Over the long-term series (2000-2025), the number of Portuguese entries into Italy reached its lowest value in 2002 (297 entries) and its highest value in 2025 (808 entries). Nevertheless, Portuguese emigration to Italy still represents a very small share of total immigration to the country (around 0.2%) and less than 1% of overall Portuguese emigration.
