In 2024, Portuguese emigration is estimated to have stabilised at around 70,000 departures, remaining at a level similar to that recorded in the previous year. This stability occurred despite declining inflows of Portuguese migrants in several of the main European destination countries and, in particular, the sharp reduction in flows to the United Kingdom, which had been the leading destination for Portuguese emigration before Brexit. The 2025 edition of the Portuguese Emigration Factbook includes updated data for 2024, or the latest year available, on overall Portuguese emigration and migration to the main destination countries, as well as on emigrants’ remittances.
