In 2025, Portuguese immigration to Belgium declined slightly (-3%) compared with the previous year. This trend mirrored the decrease in total foreign immigration to Belgium (-8.8%), resulting nevertheless in an increase in the relative importance of Portuguese migration: Portuguese nationals accounted for around 3% of all immigrant arrivals in the country. Despite this modest decline, Portuguese emigration to Belgium remains at historically high levels, following the recovery in migration flows observed between 2021 and 2024 after the sharp decline caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the 2000–2025 period, Portuguese emigration to Belgium reached its lowest level in 2000 (1,369 arrivals) and its highest level in 2024 (5,471 arrivals), highlighting the substantial growth in migration flows over the past two decades.
