Portuguese emigration to Brazil continues to decline, reaching its lowest level since 2004
Inês Vidigal
In 2025, 378 Portuguese entered Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security. This ministry accounted for a total of 41,715 foreigners entering Brazil, with the Portuguese accounting for 0.9% of this total. +

Following a significant decline in the inflow of Portuguese migrants to Brazil in 2024 (-13%), Portuguese emigration decreased once again in 2025, this time more sharply (-20.6%). The number of entries now falls below the levels observed during the pandemic period, reaching the lowest value in the series under analysis. The number of Portuguese nationals entering Brazil is now increasingly distant from the figure recorded in 2013 (2,904), the highest value in the period analysed. The downward trend observed in recent years has also translated into a relative decline in the importance of Portuguese immigration: whereas Portuguese nationals accounted for 4.7% of all migrant entries into Brazil in 2013, by 2025 they represented only 0.9%.
