Slight recovery in Portuguese inflows to Sweden in 2025
Inês Vidigal
According to data from Statistics Sweden, 595 Portuguese nationals entered Sweden in 2025. During the same year, Swedish authorities recorded a total of 89,431 foreign inflows, with Portuguese nationals accounting for 0.7% of that total. +

Following the significant decline of 17.9% recorded in 2024 in Portuguese inflows to Swedish territory, 2025 registered a slight recovery, with an increase of 5.3%, in contrast to total immigrant inflows, which declined by 23%. Over the period under analysis (2000–2025), Portuguese emigration to Sweden reached its highest value in 2023 (688 inflows), a marked contrast with the 69 inflows recorded in 2000 (the lowest value in the series). Nevertheless, Portuguese emigration to Sweden continues to represent only a very small share of both total immigration to Sweden (0.7%) and total Portuguese emigration overall (less than 1%).
