In the episode broadcast on 28 March 2026, Decisão Nacional featured Inês Vidigal, a researcher at the Emigration Observatory, and José Carlos Marques, director of the School of Education and Social Sciences at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. The focus was on the recent trend in remittances from Portuguese emigrants, which have risen by 29% over the last decade. Last year, Portuguese nationals living abroad sent over €3.9 billion to Portugal, remaining close to record levels, according to data from the Bank of Portugal. Unlike in 2024, it was emigrants in France who contributed most to this total. A conversation that helps to better understand the economic and social role of remittances and the recent dynamics of Portuguese emigration.
