Portuguese emigration to Denmark maintains a downward trend in 2025
Inês Vidigal
According to data from Denmark Statistik, 1,492 Portuguese people entered Denmark in 2025. This Danish institution counted a total of 99,152 entries of foreigners in the country, with the Portuguese representing 1.5% of that total. +

After several years of growth, the number of Portuguese nationals entering Denmark declined in 2024 (-8.4%) and decreased further in 2025 (-10.4%), reaching 1,492 inflows. Despite the strong increase observed between 2020 and 2022 – with growth rates of 13.6% in 2020, 66.2% in 2021, and 12.6% in 2022 – the figures stabilised in 2023 (+0.3%) and reversed trend in the following two years. In 2025, Portuguese nationals accounted for approximately 1.5% of total inflows into Denmark, confirming that Portuguese emigration to this destination continues to represent a relatively small share both within overall immigration to Denmark and in the context of total Portuguese emigration. Over the period considered, the highest value was recorded in 2023 (1,818 inflows), while the lowest occurred in 2003 (170 inflows).
