"Portuguese Emigration: Dynamics and Recent Transformations"
Today, February 18th, the conference "Portuguese Emigration: Dynamics and Recent Transformations" will be held, presented by Cláudia Pereira, executive coordinator of the Emigration Observatory. The conference will begin at 6 PM and is scheduled to last until 7:30 PM. This will be the third conference in the series "Migrations in Portugal: Dynamics, Challenges and Policies," organized by the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and coordinated by Maria Lucinda Fonseca, António Vitorino, Jorge Soares, and Maria Salomé Soares Pais.

About the speaker: 

Cláudia Pereira is a professor at ISCTE, University Institute of Lisbon, a researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-ISCTE), and executive coordinator of the Emigration Observatory. In 2012, she began a postdoctoral project in sociology on the relationship between the financial crisis and skilled Portuguese emigration to London, especially nurses. She was Secretary of State for Integration and Migration between 2019 and 2022. Her research interests include emigration and immigration, labor trafficking, and skilled migration. Among other publications, she co-organized the open-access book New and old routes of Portuguese emigration: uncertain futures at the periphery of Europe.
