Presence and cultural representation of Portuguese migration in Venezuela
The conference ‘Presence and cultural representation of Portuguese migration in Venezuela’ will be held on 26 February. Andrea Imaginario (Autonomous University of Lisbon and Central University of Venezuela) will be the speaker and Magdalena López (CEI-ISCTE and University of Notre Dame (USA)) will provide commentary. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES 

Andrea Imaginario is pursuing a PhD in History at the Centre for Historical Sciences Research at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, where she is completing her thesis entitled ‘History and representation of Portuguese culture in Venezuela between 1958 and 1999’. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in Comparative Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Education at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV). She trained as a soprano at the Lino Gallardo School of Music in Caracas and is an associate professor at the UCV School of Arts. At this institution, she has also held the positions of Academic Coordinator, Community Service Coordinator and member of the Academic Committee for the Master's Degree in Latin American Fine Arts and the Master's Degree in Comparative Literature. Her academic activity has focused on Cultural History, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature and Music. She has edited music albums that explore Portuguese-Venezuelan interculturality and the link between Portuguese music and poetry, for which the Association of Portuguese Descendants in Venezuela awarded her the Medal of Honour for the dissemination of Portuguese culture in Venezuela. His scientific and cultural output includes a book and several scientific articles, as well as academic translations from Portuguese into Spanish, conferences, communications, book chapters and articles for dissemination.

Magdalena López (PhD, University of Pittsburgh) is a Visiting Associate Professor at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame in the United States and an Assistant Researcher at the Centre for International Studies at Iscte - Lisbon University Institute. Her work focuses on contemporary cultural criticism related to the historical experience of the Spanish-American Caribbean. She is the author of the books El otro de nuestra América: imaginarios sobre Estados Unidos en Cuba y la República Dominicana (2011), Desde el fracaso: narrativas del Caribe insular hispano del siglo XXI (2015) and the novel Penínsulas rotas (2020). She has coordinated several collective works, an anthology of Caribbean women writers, and has published numerous articles in academic journals. She has been a visiting professor at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the University of Salamanca (Spain), the University of Lisbon (Portugal), the Catholic University of Córdoba (Argentina), the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico), the University of Notre Dame (United States) and Dartmouth College (United States).
