Emigration to Brazil reaches lowest levels since the pandemic crisis
Inês Vidigal
In 2024, 476 Portuguese entered Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security. This ministry accounted for a total of 37,302 foreigners entering Brazil, with the Portuguese accounting for 1.3% of this total. +

After a slight decline in the number of Portuguese nationals entering Brazil in 2023 (-2.7%), Portuguese emigration to the country decreased more significantly in 2024 (-13%). The number of entries is now approaching the levels recorded during the pandemic period. The number of Portuguese citizens entering Brazil is still far from the figure recorded in 2013: 2,904, the highest in the period under review. The recessive trend in recent years has translated into a relative loss of importance of Portuguese immigration: while in 2013 the Portuguese accounted for 4.7% of the inflows to Brazil, in 2024 they represented only 1.3%.
