João Baía
João Baía holds a PhD in anthropology from the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa), where he also completed his master's degree in anthropology. He is an associate researcher at the Institute of Contemporary History at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon (FCSH/NOVA) and at the Observatory of Emigration. His work focuses on migration, translocal networks, memory, social movements, borders, and biographical trajectories. Between 2022 and 2024, he taught History, History of Culture and Arts, and Citizenship at Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho Secondary School and Gil Vicente Secondary School. His doctoral thesis, titled Fronteira, (i)mobilidades e redes translocais: migrações a partir de uma aldeia raiana de Trás-os-Montes (Border, (i)mobilities and translocal networks: migrations from a border village in Trás-os-Montes), was completed in 2023.
