Migratory and residential trajectories between different homes and places
From 14 to 18 July 2025, the IX Congress of the Portuguese Anthropological Association will take place in Viana do Castelo. As part of the congress, the panel Migratory and Residential Trajectories Across Different Houses and Places will be held, organized by Jannis Kühne (CRIA NOVA-FCSH), João Baía (CEMRI/UAb), and Rita Cachado (CIES-Iscte).

This in-person panel aims to foster an interdisciplinary debate on the intersections between migration and housing, exploring how inhabited spaces influence – and are influenced by – national and international migratory trajectories.

We invite proposals addressing topics such as:

  • The intersection of internal and international migratory trajectories with residential trajectories;
  • Where to live after forced or voluntary return;
  • Circulation between houses and places;
  • The role of housing in different modalities of return migration;
  • Forced or voluntary co-living: challenges and opportunities;
  • Building homes with one’s own hands, here and there;
  • When the temporary becomes permanent;
  • Migrant and resident associations;
  • Forced migration and (post-)resettlement;
  • Socio-spatial segregation, labor, and housing segmentation;
  • The right to housing, place, and the city.

Proposal submissions are open until 13 January 2025. Further details about the event and registration can be found here.
