Portuguese inflow into Luxembourg increased for the first time in five years
Inês Vidigal
According to data from the Portail des Statistiques du Luxembourg, 3,501 Portuguese entered the country in 2018. The statistical office accounted for a total of 24,644 entries of foreigners into Luxembourg territory, with the Portuguese accounting for 14.2% of this total. +

Contrary to the trend of the last five years, in 2018 the number of Portuguese arriving in Luxembourg increased slightly (4.8%, 159 more migrants than in 2017). Despite this change, the number of Portuguese entering Luxembourg territory is still very far from that observed in 2012: 5.193, the highest figure for the period under review. The pronounced loss of relative importance of Portuguese immigration in Luxembourg has changed little: between 2003 and 2018, the number of Portuguese entering the country rose from 29.3% of total foreign migrant arrivals to 14.2% (13.7% in 2017).
