Small decrease in the number of Portuguese entries in Luxembourg in 2017
Inês Vidigal
According to data from the Portail des Statistiques du Luxembourg, in 2017 3,342 Portuguese entered the country. This statistical institute accounted for a total of 24,379 entries of foreigners in Luxembourg territory, representing the Portuguese 13.7% of this total. +

For the fifth consecutive year, the number of Portuguese entries in Luxembourg decreased, although the variation in 2017 was residual (-0.4%), with a trend towards stagnation. In 2017, the weight of Portuguese immigration in the country also decreased, from 14.7% to 13.7% of total admissions. This decrease was the result, on the one hand, of the reduction in the number of Portuguese entries in Luxembourg, which reached the lowest level since 2002 and, on the other hand, the increase in the total number of foreigners in that country (+ 6.5% ), the highest value of the period under analysis. The loss of the relative importance of Portuguese immigration in Luxembourg has become more pronounced: between 2012 and 2017, Portuguese inflows into that country went from more than 25% of total foreign migrants to less than 14%.
